Domestic Abuse Worker
I was extremely pleased to be offered the position of Domestic Abuse Worker in September 2020 to join a very caring team, who all truly believe that with love, care, compassion and kindness, change can happen and is happening.
My background prior to this has been in a custodial setting and out in the community in the fields of Substance misuse and Probation since 2001.
My role at WCM., is to provide practical help, information, advice, guidance, emotional support and advocacy for vulnerable women who have been or are currently involved in a domestic abuse situation. This involves assessing risk and need, in order to establish and maintain a safety plan and can entail face to face or telephone support.
I also facilitate 1:1 sessions of the Butterfly course, which identifies the different types of domestic abuse, what they look like and the effects on victims and children.
Additionally, I attend the weekly MARAC meeting, which is a multi-agency meeting for professionals to discuss the victims of domestic abuse, where the focus is to safeguard the victims and better manage the perpetrators.
