Project Worker: Young People

Hi I’m Sarah and I’m a Youth Project Worker here at Women’s Community Matters.   I have lived in Cumbria since 2003 when I relocated from London.  I joined the WCM team in September following 15 years working in education and schools in and around Barrow.  Previously I have worked for various departments within the civil service and then moved into Training & Development for a number of years.  Before relocating to Cumbria from London, I spent a year working and living in Italy which was a fantastic experience.

As a Youth Project Worker I help facilitate our ‘Pause for Thought’ sessions.  Pause, for thought is a personal development programme, building on young women’s (age 13-19) self-esteem and confidence.  Support can also be offered on a 1:1 basis at a time that suits the young women and their own circumstances.  The sessions are designed to help young women experiencing issues such as social isolation, mental illness, criminality, domestic abuse, substance misuse and those who have been through the care system.

I really do care about people and love the Centre’s mission statement – ‘with love, care, compassion and kindness we will change the world.’
