Food Bank Fundraiser!

Women’s Community Matters are dedicated to improving the lives of local women in the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness and the South Lakes. We have been shocked and saddened by the number of women who come into the Centre in crisis with no money for food, essentials, gas/electric, rent or even bus fare to get them around. Many of the women we support go hungry themselves to ensure their children eat. The reasons for women being left with nothing vary greatly but are very rarely self-inflicted. Their circumstances change and they are left with nothing, bringing with it shame and sadness.

We often refer women to the local Foodbank, which provides them with a 3-day parcel to feed their family. We hope support women through these difficult times alongside the Barrow Foodbank and at the same time give opportunities for growth and development through our many courses, activities and one-to-one appointments.

That’s where our Food Bank Fundraiser comes in! The staff team are each going to create their own 3-day Foodbank parcel to live off for 5-days – the reality for many is that they survive of the parcel for a week or more. We will experience what it is like to live off very little to raise awareness of the local poverty levels as well as encourage the community to donate to Barrow Foodbank. We are accepting food donations at Women’s Community Matters in the coming weeks and will drop them off on 26th June!

Food Bank Fundraiser

We are relying on local people to sponsor us over the coming weeks & hoping to reach our £500 target – all proceeds will go to support women during times of crisis, covering the basics they will need to live e.g. gas/electric, toiletries, bus fare & other essentials. We need your help. You can donate anything from £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 by texting HANK22 followed by the amount you want to donate e.g. HANK22 £1.

Thank you all 🙂
