Hi, I’m Sam and I am the Young Persons Project worker. I began volunteering for Women’s Community Matters shortly after the Centre opened whilst studying for my Social Work degree. I have worked for many years with young people with complex needs, housing/homelessness issues, substance abuse issues and young people who have had experience of being though the care system.
I currently facilitate the Pause, for thought course, working with young women aged 14-19, this is delivered as part of a weekly group session but is also offered as 1-1 sessions. I do this alongside offering 1-1 support for all women and I also co-facilitate our fabulous Beautiful Women and Beautiful Me courses.
I love working alongside young people to raise self-esteem, self-confidence and to help them recognize their own strengths. We have a flexible, laid-back approach to the Pause, for thought delivery which encourages young people to share their experiences and develop empathy and understanding of others situations as well as helping to understand their own place in the world. I love every day at work.
